The beginning of the end

A very busy weekend is coming to its end. Actually, this was the last official fishing weekend of spring season. Still, there will be fishing groups coming a few more weeks before summer takes over.

During this weekend we've had all of our boats rented (19 boats). Guests has been coming from Sweden, Belgium, Austria, Poland, Netherlands and Switzerland.

Current weather situation 2017-05-28 14:00
Air temperature: 23 degrees
Water temperature: 14-18 degrees (in average)
Water level: - 8cm
Sunny, 5m/s  SW winds

Earlier this week we had some groups here for either a week or a mid week fishing. One of the Swedish groups did OK and managed to catch a very nice fish of 105cm and +9kg. The fish was caught in a bay by Jonas Ljungqvist. Beautiful fish! Same lads also caught some +90cm pikes in sparkling sun. Earlier this week it felt like pikes was becoming more and more active. I tried my luck together with Björn who creates Nettelbaits earlier this week. We caught 17 fish with a few of around 85cm. Some of them caught in a bay far west while the other pikes was caught outside of Hasslö which is quite far out in the archipelago. Of course Nettellaken caught most of these fish while I had best results with Beastly shad.

Same day our colleague Willy was out for a full day on the water with a friend. They did good and ended up with 42 pikes caught. 99, 92, 90cm was their top three. Great day!

We were also visited by Yannik from Belgium this week who came with his friend for their 12th year. Unfortunately, they had very slow fishing during their stay and didn't catch any good numbers and only a few big pikes. Their top fish measured 99cm which is good but normally these guys catch both better numbers and sizes so for sure it was some tough days for them.

I had a guided trip during Friday with returning guests from Switzerland. We went out for a morning trip together and did so in sparkling sun and very low winds. During the first two hours we had eigth fish in the boat which is pretty good but the last two hours was slow and only resulted in one more pike and several followers.

Except from these reports, we had several boats with very poor results. Most days this weekend we had no clouds on the sky and low winds which resulted in low activity and pikes just following our guests lures. Hopefully we can enjoy better fishing conditions next week!

Finally some big fish action!

Pre summer has finally reached Karlskrona and sun is shining like never before. Last few days has been the same with about 20-24 degrees, sun and low winds. Barely no clouds and everyone is walking around in shorts, t-shirt, sunglasses and happy faces. It's a nice feeling for sure! Fortunately, pikes seems to think the same since amounts and sizes has been much better this week than earlier.

Current weather situation
Air temperature: 20 degrees
Water temperature: 13-14 degrees (in average)
Water level: - 15cm
Sunny, 3m/s  S-E winds

Today we had ten groups leaving us after a week of fishing. Most of them left with happy memories. Many pikes over +90cm has been reported during this week and at least six pikes over +100cm as well by our guests. Amounts has been ranging between 5-35 pikes per day and boat. Actually, today we had one group that caught 17 pikes just in the morning before leaving us. Impressive! Another returning group in company of Krolik from France landed approx 350 pikes over six days and nine anglers.

Water temperature is now increasing fast and several bays now offers up to 15 degrees. Further out in the archipelago the water temp is still low, about 9-10 degrees but still increasing.

Today we will have four new groups arriving for a week of fishing. Forecast looks very promising next week with 17-22 degrees, partly cloudy, west/south west winds of 5-7m/s. Water level is maybe not the best possible since it variates from -15 to -35cm upcoming days. We'll see what happens!

Peak season update

We are now in the middle of May and days are running by fast. We are having 13 fishing groups on Camp Dragsö at the moment which means approx 40 anglers. These are represented from Sweden, Denmark, France, Latvia, Netherlands & Czech Republic.

Current weather situation
Air temperature: 11 degrees
Water temperature: 10-11 degrees
Water level: - 25cm
Cloudy, light rain, 2-3m/s south winds

As you might understand, the weather and temperature is still overall cold for being the middle of May. Fortunately, it seems like upcoming days will be 17-21 degrees in air temperature. I think this is what's needed to activate the pikes... Most anglers on site still experience a bit slow fishing with many followers. Some boats has reached more than 30 pikes per boat and day last couple of days so for sure results is a bit better than last few weeks. Again, I would say that the water temperature needs to increase a few more degrees before the mayhem can start for real. No reports yet with "crazy" numbers like 60 pikes per boat and day which normally happens every year in May.

Last week the biggest fish measured 106cm by our guests and so far this week many fish of 95-99cm. I have not yet received reports from all boats but most boats report about 7-30 pikes per boat and day now.

Tomorrow five more groups will come for a weekend of fishing. With temperatures increasing, conditions looks quite promising!

During 26-27th of May we will arrange a yard sale of quality fishing lures, of course at excellent prices. So for those of you who are around and/or will be staying with us that weekend, make sure to stop by and fill your tackle boxes! About 20-50% discount on all lures.

See you!

A freezing cold May

We are soon in the middle of May. To be honest it feels more like if we're in the end of March. Last few days has given us small amounts of snow, hail and just between 0-3 degrees in early morning and evening. In the news this morning we were told that this has been the coldest nights in May for the last 30 years in our area. As you might understand this is for sure not very friendly conditions for the four groups of anglers that are here at the moment.

Last weekend a lot of anglers left us once again after a weekend (or week) of fishing. Most of them had tough fishing with low numbers and few big pikes. About three meter+ pikes was reported by our guests during last week which is to be considered a low number if you bare in mind that we had many anglers on site.

This week we have four groups here from Poland, Sweden and Slovakia. Poulik family managed to catch a 103cm pike yesterday and had a total of 16 pikes in the boat. Well done since the weather was really tough with low winds, then stronger winds, then hail and later rain.

With the last nights of cold temperatures, the water temperature is still cold for being mid May. About 8-11 degrees in most areas. Still a lot of herring in the harbour of Karlskrona and we've got the first reports of horn pikes in our surrounding area.

Tomorrow we have five groups coming and ten more on Saturday. All boats will be out and fortunately, weather seems to get better. 13-15 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Even more with up to 20 degrees next week. Hopefully this can start the after spawn frenzy for real!

Dutch week is here!

April has comed to its end and we are welcoming May, the big after spawn month. Weather seems to finally stabilize a bit with expected day temperatures up to 17 degrees later this week.

Last Sunday we had many groups leaving us after a weekend of fishing. Once again we were reached with many reports of slow fishing. Boats had an average of 4-10 pikes per boat and day. A few fish of 85-90cm was caught but only one +100cm pike during last weekend according to what I've heard.

A guided trip during Saturday resulted in eight pikes with returning Swedish guests. Slow fishing once again but we had a fun day out there anyway and tried our best to find pikes. Maybe next year we will hit the right spot at the right time..

During last weekend we welcomed a returning big group of Dutch guests. Always happy and professional boys. And one thing is for sure. The local supermarket ICA needs to load their stock of "Flintasteak" everytime they come here! :)

Earlier this week I got reports about a few meter pikes caught in our surrounding area. Also, some of our guests from Czech Republic managed to catch a meter pike from shore on Dragsö. Nicely done!

Water temperature at the moment is about 7,5-10,0 degrees in most areas. Slowly increasing after the cold period around easter a few weeks ago. Before easter the water temperature was around 12 degrees but several nights with temperatures below the freezing point forced the water temperature down to about five degrees. Since then the temperature has slowly but steady increased and soon we are up in more pike friendly after spawn temperatures. We are obviously not there yet but more fish is seen now than last week.

My colleague Willy was off work yesterday and tried his luck out there with a friend. They caught 20 pikes with two fish of more than +90cm. Most of these fish caught in 1,5m of depth and in a little bit more calm water since wind squalls was up to 18m/s yesterday.

A few more guided trips is booked for this weekend. Both with new and returning guests. Hopefully temperature goes up just a little bit more until then and I think we'll have some fun out there!

Upcoming weekend is once again a very busy one. On Thursday we will have 20 boats out fishing from our camp with a few private boats included in that number. Hopefully they can enjoy some quality fishing! And we also pray for having better winds upcoming days. Currently we have strong winds from E/NE and this isn't easy conditions for sure.

To be back with new reports!
