Season 2012 officially ended!

With the headline wroten, we have now closed down for season 2012 and are continuing to prepare everything for winter season. It has been a great season and a lot of new and returning guests has been visiting us during the season.

We are very greatful for all visits and happy faces during the season and we hope to see you back next year. During the season guests who stayed on fishing packages & guided fishing tours has been from many different countries. We count in guests from Finland, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Holland, Austria, South Africa, Australia, Poland, Belgium, France, New Zeeland, Russia and of course Sweden.

News for this season has been Plus packages, which gives our guests possibilities to rent a larger engine on our Master boats. In total we have now 11 Master boats. 8 of them with Yamaha 25hp, 2 with Honda 50hp and one Evinrude 40hp. Our fleet also includes 4 Reval 440 boats plus our guide boat, Silver Hawk 540.

We also installed cig sockets in all Master boats, which makes it possible to load and use your smartphone with navigations programs while driving. It is from now also possible to rent a smartphone with pre-installed Navionics, probably the best reference program for smartphones.

Recently, we also opened a fishing/souvenir shop online. At the moment it is only possible for Swedish guests to buy online since the shipping costs are high for abroad packages.

Furthermore, to sum up the season in a short version, we experience catches to be better than past years. Great amounts of pike has been caught, and late summer/early autumn has been good when it comes to sizes as well. Meter pikes were coming up frequently, nevertheless the huge amounts of "spaghetti weeds" that growed on late this season. Camp Dragsö Sportfishing also ended up on a 7th place out of 540 participants in this years edition of Blekinge Pike Festival with a 102cm pike.

From now on, blog will be going down a bit in activity since the season is over. But still I will try to post when we have news to announce and maybe some catch reports.

You are as allways very welcome to contribute with fishing storys, pictures or something else that could be worth posting on the blog. Just send an e-mail to daniel@dragsosportfishing.se

Once again, thank you all for this season and I hope to see you at the campsite next year, loaded to the limits with expectations and new lures to fool our beloved archipelago pikes with :)

One weekend to go

Unfortunately, season is coming to its end for this year and a lot of nice fish and happy guests has been visiting us during the season. With 4 days left until we close, a lot of things has to be done to get everything ready. According to the guests who left us last Sunday, fishing was very tough and just a few boats reached good amounts. Big samples was obviously not hungry yet since they saw hundreds of baits less than a week before during BGF. A few 90s but not more than that.

With the last weekend coming up, we will have at least 3 fishing groups at the camp, trying to catch a typical autumn archipelago pike of great size. Me myself will put a few more workouts on the water before my vacation starts. To be continued :)

9 more days!

A bit more than a week is left of our season and the rain is pouring down. We have started to put up a few boats and preparing them for a long winter. But still the season is going on and 9 boats is active on the campsite this weekend. I haven't got to many reports yet but weather has been good in morning time and worse in the afternoon since our dear weather god has decided to drop large amounts of rain over us.

Guests has started to ask about reservations for next spring and popular weeks in May is getting crowded. So to avoid disappointment I recomend you guys to book early to get your wanted weeks and available cottages.

More fishing reports will be posted after the weekend!

BGF summary!

As you might know, BGF was on this weekend and the archipelago pikes gets some well deserved rest since 533 anglers tried their luck in the region this weekend for two days. Camp Dragsö Sportfishing had two boats out on Saturday and one boat on Sunday. In my boat I was fishing with Andreas and former Dragsö guide Patrick.

First day of fishing was really hard. We tried many places and results were very poor. Personally I didn't catch a single fish on the whole day, while Patrick took 4 small cucumbers and Andreas had one small sample as well.

Second day started out almost as bad as the first one. I caught a small one on a white coloured pike fly in a very shallow bay. With hard winds up to 16m/s from west, we decided to outface the wind and went a long way out in the archipelago and tried our luck on the wind protected parts behind islands. A bit of the normal strategies, but it finally worked out!

Patrick landed a 89cm, and short after that we decided to park our boat and walk around some small islands by foot and this was the right decision. Immediately I landed a 84cm, followed by a handful small ones. Just a couple of hours before last check out time I made a short cast with a 6'' Relax shad in orange/black colour against a rock just a few meters out from the island. Big strike and the fish looked BIG since it had extremely good condition. At first we estimated the fish to be at least 106-107cm but it reached 102cm on the measuring stick. This fish deserved a good finish place on the scoring list!

Back at Dragsö we handed in the photos and could sum up a very nice 7th place in total of 533 anglers! Longest pike and winner of Blekinge Pike Festival 2012 measured 109cm, caught while jerk fishing with wading boots.

Now a few days of work is waiting to recover from long and hard days. On Thursday we will have 7 new fishing groups, and we look forward to hear about more great catches!

Good rehearsal

Hi!

At the moment our guests are dropping in one by one, loaded to their limits with fishing gear and full of good spirit. Tonight all cottages&boats are handed out and the festival feeling is strongly increasing.

Me myself has been out last couple of days in morning time to get a good feeling for where to go on the festival. Today was a bit of an exception though since I headed to a creek not far from Karlskrona to fish for perch. I went out just when the sun was about to rise and a bit drowsy I was about to get fully alert in one of my first casts. Since I was out for the perch, I brought a light old Shimano rod with casting weight up to 15grams. This rod was about to do its work immediately since my third cast resulted in a huge strike and a fish that was pushing against the bottom heavily.

After a hard fight, I could lift a beauty of 104cm with my hands. The hook of a very small jig was perfectly positioned in the lip, avoiding the teeth to break my 0,26 flourocarbon line. Hopefully a sample like this one could grab my lures during the weekend!

Perch fishing was excellent by the way, 41 individuals was caught in just about 3 hours fishing. But those came a bit in the shadow in this story, as you might understand :)

BGF just a few days away!

With just a few days left until this years edition of Blekinge Pike Festival, we are having a lot of work to do to have everything in its order when all anglers arrives. Approx 300 persons are starting from Dragsö this year, and loads of boats will be around when the start is going on Saturday morning.

As last year, we will be going out with two boats and both me and Andreas will be writing a bit on the blog during the competition, to give you the latest catch reports and how the conditions are and so on. Most of posts will be in Swedish because we are expecting lots of Swedish guests to follow the blog over the festival. We will try to post a few pictures as well!

As it looks on the forecast, conditions seems to be quite good, with 8m/s west winds and cloudy. This is about to switch many times before the weekend is here though since the meterologists ain't to good on predicting the forecast. Anyway, it seems to be better than last year at least since we had minus degrees on Saturday morning and no wind at all. Water was more clear than in Caribbean waters... It should also be mentioned that the water level is very high at the moment, which could affect where the pikes will stand in the weekend.

Stay well!

Photo proof of the biggie!

To begin with, I have to say that fishing is still very good at the moment. Pikes are for sure hungry and willing to hunt. It's going to be a long winter as usual and pikes need to fill their bellys, just to make the cold winter.

Today 7 boats was handed in and same amount of fishing groups who spent a fishing weekend here at Dragsö. Some boats had decent fishing while other really found them out there. A big load of 90s were landed and at least 2 pikes over the meter came up last couple of days. You have already heard about the huge 111cm fish caught this friday, and now we have recieved pictures of this biggie.

Mattias Granberg was the lucky angler who caught this sample and erased his old personal best twice(!) during his stay, with the 111cm as the new PB. The fish took a Buster Jerk in Pike colour on very shallow water, approx 0,5m depth, not far from Dragsö.

Camp Dragsö Sportfishing rewarded Mattias with a custom cap in red colour for his catch and we hope to see more of these beasts during the upcoming last weeks of this season.

To be continued!

1 week to BGF!

Hello out there!

Today it feels like the rain is a never ending nightmare, since the clouds has decided to open themselves totally. Just about 10 degrees outside makes you wish that the summer should be just a couple of weeks away by now. But! For pike enthusiasts this conditions makes us feel that fishing is just getting better and better. With last weeks weather conditions, water temperature has decreased fast so just outside Dragsö we are barely having 13 degrees now.

Yesterday our skilled Belgium guests left us after one weeks fishing. Their total amount reached 150 pikes with top of 103cm and several fish above the 90's. Picture is from their last day of fishing when they found a spot of shallow water where they managed to catch several fish in the upper 90's.

Moreover I also got information yesterday about a stunning 111cm pike caught by Swedish guests on the camp. New personal best for him and hopefully we will receive some nice pics of this beast later this weekend. Conditions is certainly looking good next week then BGF (Blekinge Pike Festival) is operated!

Up and down

Hi!

Time for a new catch report from us on Dragsö Sportfishing. At the moment we are just having one fishing group here for a week long fishing vacation. These guys know the area well since they have been here several times before in autumn time. According to them, fishing is a bit hard some days and much better some days. This is what I personally have experienced the last couple of days as well.

Yesterday me and Anton had 30 minutes before the sun went down and I caught a +85cm on a white/blue 22cm shad. The day before yesterday Anton caught a 95cm, this was for sure the most ugly pike I've seen for a while. It was thin, the head was not in ptoportion with the body and the fish was also "albino" coloured on half of its body!

Our guests leaved me some nice pictures yesterday of their biggest pike so far this week. 103cm and this sample was caught in a bay of shallow water. I'm sure these guys will trick some more pikes up before they end their stay for this time on Saturday. Nicely done!

Tomorrow we'll get 5 more groups to Dragsö and more to come on Saturday. We look forward to more catch reports and hopefully some nice pictures!

Amazing fishing for our guests

Since we have reached the weekend and Saturday this means we had some fishing companys leaving and arriving today. 6 groups left us a couple of hours ago after a week of fishing and also a few new ones just arrived. Some of our guests visited us for their very first time and some of them have been here for several times.

One of our guests from Poland told me today that he brought his friend here this week for his first time. He had told his friend that "I can promise you, we will catch a minimum of 30 pikes in my boat this week". Told and done, after the first day they had already reached 30+ pikes in his boat!

During the week we've had guests from Germany, Holland, Poland, Sweden and Belgium. Numbers of meter pikes has been low, just 2 meter pikes during the week but many samples around 95 and a few ones of 99 and 98cm. The amounts has been great though! In each boat (2-3 anglers) our guests had reached amounts like 190, 160, 143, 114 and a few boats with expected 100+ pikes in a bit less than a week of fishing. It's for sure numbers that you can't reach on so many places :)

One of our returning guests from Belgium left today with a fantastic report of 38 caught pikes in just about 4 hours fishing, 2 persons! A quite good ending of the week, since we had very hard winds yesterday. According to weather sites, we had squalls up to 26m/s and average wind of 16m/s yesterday and pikes moved into surrounding small bays where they was found in bigger numbers and being very aggressive!

Master with cig sockets

Hello my friends

During the past week we have worked with improving our boats a bit. Most of our boats has been up and cleaned from old barnacles and algae, to be 100% fit for fish the last month of the season. We also installed 12V cig sockets in all Master boats. This we made because more and more guests are using their smartphones with plotter programs to navigate in our archipelago. So for those of you who plan a fishing trip to Dragsö in the future, you are very welcome to bring your charger with cig mount to be sure having battery all day.

Furthermore, we have also bought a smartphone for rental with pre-installed Navionics plotter program. I could really recomend our guests to either buy this app when arriving here, or rent our smartphone which is pre-installed. Just "Plug&Play!". Navionics costs at the moment 189:- SEK, and our smartphone can be rented for either week- or weekend packages only. Cost is 360:- SEK for the weekend package and 630:- SEK for a whole week. As you can se on the picture, our smartphone is well protected for bad weather as well and can be used even rainy days.

REMINDER: ALL CHARTS AND MAPS ARE FOR REFERENCE PURPOSE ONLY. YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITY AND RISK FOR THEIR USE AND FOR THE USE OF NAVIONICS SOFTWARE.

Meter pikes rolling on

Hi!

I've had a couple of days from work and of course been on the water these days. This time, with variating results. Went out with trainee Anton both days and our first day started out as we ended the last ones. That means we managed to catch meter pike once again! This time it measured exactly 100cm and was caught on a 45cm XXL-tail copy. We also had contact with a few more fish around the meter and caught some +80cm fish as well.

Our guests are catching good amounts of fish and at least one meter pike has been caught and also a 99cm. Temperatures are going up and down, since we had 7 degrees during the last night but approx 16 degrees just a couple of days ago. We still catch fish a long way out in the archipelago but the first samples has already been caught in the bays as well.

Blekinge Pike Festival is now FULLY BOOKED with a bit more than 2 weeks to the start. This means about 540 competitors and almost 300 of them are starting from Dragsö Sportfishing Camp.

Fishermens camp!

Hey!

Sitting in the reception after a morning guiding with two nice guys from Holland respective Germany. Fishing wasn't to good since we had very strange weather shifting during the night. Yesterday we had west winds up to 19m/s, which totally died off during the night. So this morning we had no wind at all and sunny weather. The pikes did for sure not appreciate this change and it took more than one hour before first pike came up.

We are at the moment having 8 of our boats out on the water and hopefully they will be successfull out there. Weather situation seems to be good for the upcoming days, with 4-6m/s S/SW winds and cloudy.

I'll be back in next week with more catch reports and hopefully some pictures!

Meter once again!

Just came home after a short, but effective, fishing session after work with trainee Anton. 80 minutes later back at Dragsö we could sum up once more amazing fishing! This time we put focus on only big baits, such as pimped shads 30cm, Real Eel 40cm and such sizes of rubbers.

First strike, but miss, didn't take to long. We realized this could be a good evening session in a wind protected area. And thoughts was about to get real very soon. Big hit on my Eel showed up to be a starving lady of 100,5cm! After some quick photos she went back faster than a rocket, lucky to have her life retained. Second meter pike in a few days!

However, this wasn't all for tonight. 3 more nice pikes came up in size; 98,5, 97,5 and +90cm. Add a few misses to this and we are more close to reality. Fishing is HOT at the moment :)

Trainee success

Hi to all. I'm sitting and enyoing a big cup of coffee this morning and let my mind look back on yesterdays fishing trip. The day before yesterday we got company of Anton, a trainee from my former school Sport Fishing Academy, who is going to stay with us for the next 3 weeks.

Since this was his first visit to Karlskrona, he was more than excited to get out on the water after a day at the camp. As many of my own fishing trips, I try to explore "new" areas all the time and also visit places where I haven't been for a while. All to get good knowledge about where to recomend our guests to go. Still a lot of places are overloaded with different types of sea grass and chickweed.

We went out in the early evening with good expectations. The wind condition didn't let us fish around the islands in the middle archipelago this time as I first had thoughts of. Meteorologists must have had a bad day yesterday, since we expected 6-7m/s west winds but the truth was more like 10-11m/s and S/SW-winds. This didn't bother much though, since we continued to fish behind the islands to get some wind cover in the east part of the arcipelago.

Well first hour didn't give to much answers, as just one small cucumber came up on a 6'' yellow Relax shad of mine. But last two hours resulted in amazing fishing! We put the anchor in the middle of a small bay where the wind came in with good strength and started casting around. First a +80cm immediately took my yellow Relax shad again, and short after that Anton had a few missed strikes on a large shad in Yellow/Red colour (30cm!). Finally, a good strike for him and a nice estimated 95cm was seen in the surface. This lady didn't appreciate the celebrity of beeing seen so she decided to let go before we had a chance to land her. To bad, it was a nice fish! Anton did get his revenge just minutes later though, a thin 93cm was securely landed and measured.

After a few more bites, we continued on for the last 30 minutes of fishing, which ended in great success! Since the pikes today seemed to go for bigger baits, I decided to put on my 40cm Savage Gear Real Eel in purple colour. Third cast, BAM! 85cm fish who also took a jump with whole body above the surface. There were several more hard strikes, and I almost sh*t my pants just a few casts later when a 100cm+ fish came with super speed to hit my Eel when I was just about to lift it above the surface, leaving a smaller shower after herself. Just within all this excitement Anton gets a hard strike on a 45cm XXL softbait. Landed and measured this nice sample to be 102cm, 8.2kg. Not to bad, first time in Karlskrona and directly a meter fish!! :) Continiously, we also landed one more +90cm fish before we went back again.

Pikes are for sure ready for our arriving guests!

Lovely September

We have now pulled away August from our calendars and are welcoming the pike month called September today. Upcoming weekend we will have a lot of fishing guests at Dragsö and hopefully the fishing can be continuously good. Me myself will have a few days of work in the beginning of next week so I will try out some places that I haven't visited for a while. It's allways good and appreciated to be able to give our new guests some tips and hints about where to go when they get here.

Futhermore, we will have time to look over the boats, all equipments and so on so everything is ready for the main autumn season. And remember, It's less than one month until Blekinge Pike Festival and guess if we are loaded to our limits for this! Hopefully we can perform well this year and catch some nice fish. All of our boats and lots of cabins are booked since long time ago. It will for sure be a good experience to meet all like-minded anglers.

Stay updated, I'm sure there will be some nice fish coming up during the week :)

Bom Bom, Baam!

Wow fishing is continuously hot at the moment. Yesterday we had a bit stronger winds, perhaps about 8m/s with local squalls at 14m/s. Of course this didn't bother me much after work. Last couple of days has been great so I decided to give it a try anyway.

And this was a decision that I wouldn't regret. Best fishing at the moment is still a far way out in the archipelago, where you can find shallow parts close to deeper areas. With the wind condition I had to stop just a few hundred meters out from the harbour to optimize my load in the boat, just to get a steady drive on the open water.

The fishing started out a bit slow but soon enough I had a huge strike with a following good fight, pulling out line several times in 7-10m rushes. When I saw the fish I realized that this for sure was a meter pike, most probably up to 1.10 and good condition. My feelings was combined with happy spirit in my head with the feeling of "God please let me land this fish now and don't let it escape for me!".

Of course, the pike heard my thoughts and decided to spit my lure out, with following bad words from my mouth. Immediately I made a new cast on almost the same spot as the biggie striked, and to my amazement a new good hit almost directly showed of into my banana formed rod. This fish also spitted out my lure but just after 4-5 seconds, I felt that this fish was big as well!

Some more bad words followed but directly I made a new cast just a few meters to the right of where the first ones were attacking my eel. BAM and a third fish of great size inhaled my bait! I could not believe what was going on while I was fighting this fish. To my relief, I saw that this beauty had taken both hooks well and was for sure not going to get away. At the boat I used a poor lip grip to secure the fish. Success!

It's hard to get good photos when out on water, but with a carp sack you can easily put the pike back to the water while setting up your camera. So with the self-timer I managed to take few nice pics of this top conditioned 104cm :) And best of all? It's all on the Go Pro monted on my chest. Will be up on our YouTube channel soon!

3 hours fishing, contact with 3 meter pikes and a total of 7 in the boat yesterday.

Nice fish coming up!

So nice to confirm that the season seems to start good this autumn. We are barely in the end of August, but still there are som nice fish coming up. Today I had lure graver Jens in the reception and he told me about a 10,4 kilo fish (Huge! 110cm?) that was caught in our area in the past days. I also heard from other people that at least 2 meter pikes was caught in the last days, but these samples were very thin.

Personally, I ended my shift in the early afternoon so I decided to go out for a short evening session since weather was superb! A bit cloudy, about 4-5m/s and south-west direction of the wind. This day, all islands and reeds looked good but I decided to try a bit further out again. This was for sure a good choise. Within 2.5 hours fishing I managed to catch 2 pikes just under the meter, one of approx 85cm and also 5 more between 75-80cm. They were going crazy out there and I can't even imagine how many followers there was. All fish were standing in about 2m depth close to deeper water.

At the moment we are having 2 groups of fishing guests and tomorrow seems to be pretty okey fishing weather as well so hopefully there can be some nice fish coming up!

Finally, we're in it!

As the headline calls, we are into the autumn season now! The second group of fishing guests arrived today and more to come. With the past days good fishing, we hope that our guests will reach their expectations out there and hopefully we can post some pictures in middle of next week of their catches. One thing is for sure, these guys were excited from their toes and up when they got here!

This summer I have experience the average size to be a bit lower than last year, but in the last couple of weeks I´ve heard about some nice fish coming up. At least 3 meterpikes in last week in our area plus my own 3 samples over the 90s in just about 4-5 hours fishing the last two days. The condition of the fish has been great on most of them and they have been pretty strong and good fighters as well.

Also good to know is that we still experience a bit struggle with the massive loads of sea weed on many places, making the fishing a bit hard if you don't use proper baits and techniques.

For knowledge, those of you who want to join Blekinge Pike Festival this year has to apply soon since we see a huge interest this year with a lot of competitors already. Apply at www.blekingegaddfestival.se

Autumn season on its way

Hi!

As you may now by now, pikesafari sessions is over for this year and yesterday a lot of camping guests left us. For me, this is a sign and feeling of that the fishing season is on its way to start once again. We have still about 25 degrees with a top yesterday of 28 degrees.

As you might now, when the fishing guts are strong, it doesn't matter what the weather is like. So was the case yesterday. 28 degrees, no wind and the ice cream shops were for sure happy for their sales. I went out in the evening for a short session before the sun went down. Tried out the new Real Eel's 30cm with good result! At first stop a long way out in the archipelago, it just took about 5 casts before a remarkable strong pike just under the meter got really furious on one of my eels. At first I expected the fish to be even bigger, but this fish was good conditioned and with a back thicker than a bull neck. Colours were amazing, a perfect sample of a typical Blekinge pike.

Well, I continued approx 50 meter and at this place I felt 2 small touches on my eel, I thought it was a bottom bounce on the stones but when the lure came closer to the boat I saw a huge follower! This one was really fat and by estimate around 110cm. With this fish in my mind, I started to cast like crazy in all directions nearby but the smart lady didn't expose herself again. Lucky for me though, it only took 5 minutes on a new spot and a 90cm fish more came up!

So, now I really look forward to season, Do you? :)

Pikesafari #7 2012

Rattle drums....... Bam! The last pikesafari for this season has comed to its end as we write friday morning. As last year, this last pikesafari wasn't really fully booked and only 4 boats with 15 anglers went out.

The weather didn't look to good during the day. Some showers and low north winds. I decided to go a bit further out this time, since we experienced a lot of sea weed during last pikesafari and the visited places. But honestly spoken, north side of Hasslö wasn't much to cheer for either. If possible, this place was even worse! If one cast out of ten went good without catching sea weed, well then it was pretty good. And as a "welcome here" we received a powerful rain shower just when we got there, luckily it stopped fast and the sun smiled at us for the rest of this evening.

With this fact in our minds, I decided to go to place number two a bit earlier than estimated. Just before we went of, one of the boats managed to catch a 74cm fish and directly we realized that this fish was the one to beat.

Continuously, we went a long drive to south of Dragsö. By then we had no wind to speak about and I realized that it was going to be a hard time finding any fish. I was kind of right, since anglers in my boat only caught a small cucumber.

Back at Dragsö the summary of this last pikesafari was going to be very short and easy. With only 5 pikes in total, the early 74cm fish won and 4 lucky anglers could receive the last nice caps for this season.

In total this summer, we managed to catch 123 pikes in 7 safaris. Something to break for next year!

Now a few weeks of preparation and ending the regular camping main season is approaching.

Stay updated, because soon we're ready for another PIKE season!

Pikesafari #6 2012

Friday evening at Dragsö and we are busy at the campsite since this is the last big vacation weekend in Sweden. With a full campsite the last couple of weeks, we also had a big group who joined the pikesafari yesterday.

With a total of 32 anglers, we went out west to the islands of Ivö, Utö and Ekeskär. Fishing started out slow in the approx 4m/s east winds. Both me and David were kind of surprised over the sea weed conditions out there though. Last weeks hot temperatures really did some "damage" on the pike waters since many usually very good spots wasn't even possible to fish at this time. So much sea weed that your lure barely touched the surface before you had enough sea weed to fill a good runned sushi bar.

Well, enough about that. In my boat we decided to make a quick last stop at the first place, which showed up to be a good decision. A few casts there and a 81,5cm fish completely inhaled a brown coloured jerkbait.

Lucky with the stop, all boats continued to the second place which this time showed up to be around Ramsö & Svinön, just west of Dragsö. At this place, I think most boats had better fishing and contact with pikes. Some boats did catch a few smaller pikes while some had a hard time finding something else than the never ending sea weed bunches. Personally, I also caught a perch of nice size before we went back to Dragsö.

In conclusion, 8 boats managed to catch 18 pikes this time, 5 of them in my boat while 2 boats stayed on the zero barrier. 81,5cm on the first place showed up to be the biggest for the day, followed by a 74cm.

Daniel 2, David 0. Good Times :)

Pikesafari #5 2012

So another week is coming to its end and we have acomplished yet another pikesafari last Thursday. With 40 persons, we were fully booked and had a whole bunch of guests who didn't get a place this time. So for avoiding disappointment, make sure to make your reservation in time.

Continuously, we had finally received sunny weather here in Karlskrona with about 28 degrees and almost no wind. With this conditions in our minds, we thought the fishing was going to be very tough this time. But what a miscalculation from our side. We went to the east side of Karlskrona and fished around the islands of Tvegölja as our first place. In Davids boat, one of the guys had never been fishing pike before. Imagine what? First cast, BAM.. Fish on and a good fight but maybe with a bit lack of experience, the pike won the battle and escaped after a few minutes fight.

This pike was not the only one out there who obviously wanted to eat today though. Many strikes in both mine and surrounding boats in the first hour of fishing. At first, me and David had in our minds to try fishing in a (hopefully) coloured bay as second place, but with the good results of the first place we decided to go to a somewhat similar place as the first stop.

With ten boats, we fished the whole area of Kobebus and Bergaholmarna just south of the mainland. This place usually delivers fish and did so this time as well. Back at Dragsö we could sum up a total of 28 pikes this wonderfull evening. If I remember right, the longest one measured 76cm.

Unfortunate for our dutch returning fishing guests, who joined us for their first pikesafari ever, the evening didn't went that good. Low numbers of pike and a broken steering wire which ended their possibilities of driving the boat a short time before the end of trip. But I think the lads had a pretty nice evening anyway, at least I had close to laugh during the evening :)

Stay well and tight lines!

Pikesafari #4 2012

Saturday morning and my first day off work for a while now. It has become time to write a new summary of the pikesafari which was made the day before yesterday!

This time we was allmost fully booked even though the weather didn't look to good on the whole day before we went off. Light rain was falling allmost the whole day and temperature barely reached 20+ this day. When we went out the rain stopped though and it seemed like the weather gods once again had spared us from the worst weather.

Since we had a lot of boats with us, me and David decided to pick to big areas to insure that all boats could have their on fishing spots. First stop was far out in the archipelago, Bollöarna, which is located between Hasslö and Aspö. The fishing here was terrible this time though, just one or two pikes came up in one hours fishing distributed over 36 anglers. Rumours about a few big followers were told but this time the pikes overshined us.

Second place we tried out was the whole area of Smörpundsholmarna, just south-west of Dragsö. Even here the fishing was quite slow at the beginning. Just about 20 minutes before the end a few boats including mine found some pikes. In total we caught 17 pikes and I really think that 8-9 of those came up during the last minutes. A double strike in my boat and the boat next to us with a third going on as well made up our smiles a bit though!

Back at the camp we discovered that our special guests for this pike safari, a journalist of Swedish fishingmagazine Fiskejournalen, had caught the biggest pike of the day with a length of 74cm, beating the second place pike of 72cm.

Hopefully the pikes will be on a better mood next week, it feels a little bit like they are having a hangover period or something :)

Pikesafari #3 2012

Hi!

A bit delayed this week but now it has become time to post the summary of our latest Pikesafari. This time we were fully booked, which means 10 boats and 38 anglers!

Since we had quite hard winds this time, I decided to fish in the nearby area of the mainland. With 10 boats in our company, we fished in a rather big area so all boats could have their own fishing spots. The small island groups of Kobebus and Kurrholmarna gave variating results in the boats. In my boat, we had a few pikes of small size in the boat before we gathered up to continue on to another place.

With tough winds we drove slowly west/north-west to an area called Skillingenäs. I experienced  that the fishing was a bit better here, but still no big ones showed up. In my boat I tried mostly with soft baits while my company in the boat tried hard with different jerkbaits and tailbaits. We almost reached 10 caught pikes in about 2,5 hours, with our biggest measured 70,5cm.

Back at the campsite we summed up the evening and results were variating. Some boats didn't catch a single pike, while some boats almost had a handful of pikes. For the very first time, at least what I know, we got a divided winner since two fish of exactly 70,5cm was caught! Approx 20 pikes got caught in total this time in the hard wind and most of them measured 50-60cm. Unfortunately, we had one guest who experienced how sharp the hooks are, resulting in a hospital visit after the pikesafari. He was on good spirit anyway though since he was sitting in one of the winnerboats, giving him one of our nice Pikesafari winner caps.

We look forward to the next pikesafari on Thursday! We still have availability for those who want to join us so don't hesitate to contact us!

Best Fishes,
Daniel

Time for some boat scrubbing

Hi!

Hope you all are doing well in the summer and catching some decent fish. At Dragsö the campsite is full at the moment with happy vacation celebrates. With summer season comes the yearly returning barnacles (small white basterds who sticks to the bottom of all boats.) This dramaticly decreases the speed of the boat so at the moment we are scrubbing all our boats to get prepared for some soon fully booked pike safaris!

We have been trying Karlskronas new boat wash with good result. Fast and effective, exactly as we want it!

Here is a video of the first boat wash.

Pikesafari #2 2012

Hi!

Another week has gone since last post on the blog and during summer this means it's time for another pike safari summary! Yesterday 20 anglers went out to chase our beloved pikes. We had twisting winds from north to north-east around 5-7m/s, not really the best conditions but at least we had some strength in the wind. Very cloudy and the rain was just holding itself on the right side of the clouds, leaving us dry for the whole evening.

We began the evening on the east side of Karlskrona, just outside the ferry port, Kalsholmen. Fishing was quite good though, me myself caught a 66cm fish in the very first cast and the expectations immediately rised.

The second and last place we tried out was the whole area of Borgmästarefjärden, just outside Dragsö. And guess what, small rubber baits once again fished better than jerks, at least this evening.

Totally 21 pikes was caught and winnerfish measured 80,5cm caught by yours truly. Guess if this result made my evening, not so much for being the winnerfish of the pikesafari, but more for beating David, who was really confident of catching a bigger fish than me before we went out. Daniel 1, David 0!

We still have vacancies for next weeks pikesafari so there is still possibility to join us next week!

Pikesafari #1 2012

Hi!

As the headline tells, we've just completed our first scheduled pikesafari for this summer! As every year, the first pikesafari is somewhat like a soft start of the pike fishing summer. 5 boats with a total of 15 participants joined us yesterday in the lovely June weather. We had very low winds, approx 2m/s and decreasing the longer we fished. The sun were for sure sympathetic and gave us a nice eveniing in the archipelago.

The great variety of competitors was no exception this night. In my boat I had a very special guest this evening, Ingvar, who joined us for his 86th (!!) pike safari with his daughter. And remember, there is just 7 pike safaris in one summer! We wasn't that lucky when it came to fishing though. A few followers in the calm and clear water but few proper strikes. Overall the results was variating, since one boat came in with 6 pikes and some boats just caught a few ones. Approx 13 pikes were caught but obviously we found the kindergarden this evening since the biggest fish just measured 66cm.

The areas we tried was the islands around Varö, west of Dragsö, whereupon we continued a bit further west to the coastline of Tromtö.

Well this was a summary of yesterdays pikesafari, and if you are in the surrounding area of Karlskrona, don't hesitate to book and follow us upcoming thursdays between 18:00-21:00!

If you intend to visit Dragsö in summer and want to join one of these pike safaris, don't forget to book in the reception or through e-mail to avoid disappointment.

Furthermore, we still have a small asortment of fishing lures in the reception. Hitmans, The Vicar and also some really nice handmade jerkbaits. Available in variating sizes and of course the best colours possible for our archipelago. Send an e-mail for more details. We can also offer shipping inexpensively.

Afternoon scout

Went out yesterday for a short 3h scout to find out where the pikes are located at the moment, since I have been of the water for a week. I began way out around the big islands Hasslö & Aspö. At first place, no pikes seemed to be around. Moved just about 30m and directly caught a thin 94cm on a natural coloured tail bait. I hardly saw anything of the +25cm long bait, the pike really took it deep!

Fortunately, the hooks were surprisingly easy to remove anyway, and just a few casts later a well conditioned 90cm took the same bait! The second pike had serious amounts of energi, and fighted very well. To bad I didn't bring the GoPro this time, with only a broken iPhone available, the pictures didn't get to good.

Anyway, 3 more pikes over 75cm came up around the islands "Smörpundholmarna", closer to Karlskrona mainland.

All these fish were standing in about 1,5-2,5m of depth.

Vacation break

It has now become time for me to go on a week-long vacation. May is over for this year but we are still having some fishermen groups at the campsite. According to our guests, the fishing is some days really good! We are having some returning guests from Belgium here at the moment and they managed to catch as much as 3 meter+ pikes, in one day! Hopefully we can post some pictures of these magnificent fish later this week.

I would like to thank everyone who has visited us so far this spring, and I really hope to see you back at Dragsö soon enough. Remember that our season is a week shorter upcoming autumn since Blekinge Pike Festival is arranged in the last weekend of September this year. Dates of the festival is 29-30th of September.

What is coming up at Dragsö Sportfishing? We are soon entering June which means that our very popular Pike Safari will begin for this season as past years, every thursday during high season. I will like last year post a summary from each pike safari, just so you guys can read about our adventures!

I'll see if there will be any posts from my vacation. There will for sure be some hours spent on fishing at the island of Gotland.. So you'll better stay updated! :-)
